An Afternoon at Matang Wildlife Park

The trip was unplanned but when Siti called us that morning, we decided to go with it, and that decision was worth making that day!  For once, we never went for a picnic as a family (perhaps because we didn't know a good place to go).  The only place that I could think of for such activity is Matang Family Park, but Siti and Co. showed us a better and more convenient option.  The images below tell the full story of our brief yet memorable activity.

UNIMAS Water Sports Carnival 26 November 2011

For the first time ever, I finally decided to join the competition despite my lack of ability to swim or to negotiate the kayak.  I guess most of the first timers wanted to join just for the fun of it.  Our first few trainings were rather humorous.   For once, Ain, who also can't swim, was "drawn" to participate when someone told her that the kayak will NEVER EVER topple.  Our first visit to the pond by invited by the incident of two persons thrown "overboard" when their kayak tipped.  Hmm.... not a very good sign for many of us, so I thought.  Nevertheless, our first day was OK because Dr M helped to direct the floating device.

How I Got My Current Room

Mid of last month, we finally moved to the new campus after our very long wait.  We were the last faculty to migrate and what is left in our old den now is the Pre-U center and am sure by now, all the staff (regardless of their ranks) are enjoying the luxury of covered parking space.  Such facility is extremely rare in our new habitat so many of us go for lots under tree shades.

I had dilemma in identifying my "territory" for the next 20 or so years.  To cut the story short, I finally selected room no. 26 after several times changing my mind. Initially I wanted to avoid the side that fetches afternoon sunlight but now I am rather settled with it as the rooms are longer by almost 2 ft. (quite a significant difference if you asked me).  Let me describe the rooms that I contemplated prior to this:

1st choice: Picked by our admin in charge, Suky (can't remember the number) because we had to cast lots in order to be fair to everyone.  Can't remember why I changed my mind.... er, next!
2nd choice: Shifted to the other wing with Gina and Bemen. Decided to settle with a shadier room next to Bemen's but later decided to look again because of the large column located at one end of the room.  My mom aka Miri Lilian Too explained that having square columns in one's room is not advisable as  the corner is seen like an arrow pointing (which is not very positive for career development).  This time around I paid heed to what she said; probably because I didn't feel entirely happy about the room.
3rd choice: I finally chose a room next to Gina's which receives the morning sun, took the keys to "officiate" it and had my things moved there.  Before I opened my boxes, I decided to look around one more time, just to make sure that I am settled with my decision.  That very day I found that the rooms that face the afternoon sun are almost two ft longer than the other side (where my then room was located).  That's it, am changing room AGAIN!
4th option: I was set to look for rooms on the other side. Afternoon sun pun, afternoon sun lah... At least I get a bigger room.  Elena and Bemen helped out in the selection process.  Amoi helped to decide which room gives you the "wow!" or rather put it mildly, the "waaaaaaahhh..." effect.  :)   We found one a few doors away from Bemen's room.  It was column free and I have the windows all to myself.  According to Bemen, the room number is 24 (ni-si in Chinese which means senang mati).  Alamak, I already have my car plate number 4588 (sei-mm-fatt: meaning sampai mati pun tak kaya). The sinsei said takdak "ong".  Choose again!
Final option: This room is located one door away from the bilik senang mati, and the number is 26.  Hm, doesn't sound full of curse to me, it is large and free of obstruction (which Miri Lilian Too loves so much).  It is located two doors away from the printer room and the pantry.  Elena liked it, sinsei approved it; OK, this room is sooooOOOOOO taken!

The next thing to do was to hire the boys from the moving company to shift my boxes to the new room.  Paid two of them RM10.00 each for a 15 minutes assistance.

p/s: A few days after that, Dr Ling deduced that the room is actually good because 2+6=8 (fatt is prosperity!).  I think I'll stay here until I rot!  Hahahah.   Human beings, we tend to justify events conveniently just to feel good about our decisions.  I am not an avid believer but the collective decisions made during the process brought me to a room which I proudly identify as my own space now.  Chiaow.... until the next entry.

Something "bu dui jing" with Wordpress

Why the sudden move to blogspot when I already have submitted numerous entries to my blog (of the same title) at wordpress?  This is why:

After spending a good 40 minutes updating my previous entry, it came out blank! Still nothing even after I created a new post....   Wah! Buang masa betul!  So, why should I waste more time there?
